resetting SOL

From a post on 6/1 several of you responded to a post asking about a form letter from W & A. stated don't respond, they just want to reset SOL. I have been reading through the posts trying to understand everything and thought I understood, SOL are for paying original creditor...CA's don't count? HOw would paying reset SOL?
