Chase Manhattan Bank, North American, is often referred to as different names, i.e. Chase, Chase Bank, Chase Manhattan, etc. They're one and the same. What concerns me is the fact that there is question regarding the account number. The new number may be a 'file' number assigned to the account from Midland. I would advise you to contact Chase collection dept. and specifically ask them if the account has been 'assigned' or
'sold' to Midland or some other 3rd. party collector. DO NOT call the collection agency...
you will only be asking for further harassment from them. The different amounts on the account are most likely fees and interest charges that have accrued on the account since 2001.

You also need to inform yourself of your rights so that you can deal with the low-life collectors. It would also help to know what state you live in so that you can learn to deal with the legal aspects of the situation.
