Beware that some jurisdictions allow what is known as "nail and mail" service. In otherwords, they stick the summons on your door (or so they claim) and then send a copy by certified mail. Those that allow such service of process consider not picking it up as evasion of service if you really live there.

However, do as Tazi said and check with the courthouse. If a summons has been issued, they will know. If a summons has been issued, pick it up. No sense in allowing them to get a default judgment.
