Service by certified mail IS valid service in most states. IF it is a lawsuit, NOT picking it up won't keep the lawsuit from going forward. Their next tactic could be service by publication in the paper and that's perfectly legal too in most states. Unless you read the legal notices section of you daily paper, you would never see it.

You might as well go get it.
