But even if they do have a copy of the contract showing you owe court costs, that doesn't mean they can charge you exorbitant interest. They are limited by law as to how much interest they can charge unless it's stipulated in the contract. They also have to give you a FULL accounting of every penny, if you ask for it.

Also, fighting them costs THEM a lot of money. They will approach you at the first hearing to see if you can come to an agreement. See if they will settle for fifty percent or less just not to have to fight it out in court. If they won't, then fight. Even IF they win, they'll not be able to get a garnishment without going through considerable effort and expense, giving you plenty of time to regroup.

Finally, go to http://www.edcombs.com, Daniel Edelman's web site. He has LOTS of information regarding CA's, and will even take a look at your case for free. If you file an appearance, contact him BEFORE you file your answer to see if he has a pending class-action lawsuit against Sherman.
