Sherman has a bad rep for playing psychological games and playing hardball with people. From what I have heard of them, I would not expect a reasonable settlement. Like MCM, I would not expect them to bend to anything less than 100% in installment payments. But MCM ended up walking away with LESS THAN NOTHING with me, since they had to pay court costs. They wanted to play hardball, so I played the same. "Prove your case or get lost" is the only option I gave them. So they got lost. Wimped out right in front of the judge before I could even open my mouth. It's your life, and only you can decide what is best for you. But personally, even before I found out that all third-party debt purchasers are paper tigers, I would NOT agree to pay one red cent to any of them until 1)I've taken my best shot with every law available to me, 2)they've proved their case with something I've personally signed, 3)the judge says I have to pay, *AND* 4)SOME ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW JUDGE HIGHER THAN THE PREVIOUS JUDGE SAYS I HAVE TO PAY. If they don't have proof that I signed a contract that says I have to pay them, they have no proof that I ever agreed to pay them anything, and they have no proof that they are entitled to pay, that's just too tough. The law says they have to do that to be entitled to my hard-earned money. And since I didn't have it to give them, I couldn't see borrowing good money from someone who cared enough about me to offer it, just to throw it to bad. Not only would I be suffering, but so would my relatives. Terrorism pays off well, it appears. I didn't let it, in my case.
