I received a telephone call on my cell phone from CAMCO today. The name used was my maiden name, which I have not used in 10 years. The person told me that the original debtor was Citibank. I told him I never had a Citibank card. The date of debt was over 15 years old according to him. He told me the original debt was $1000, but was now over $1600 with interest. I asked him why I was never contacted before, if I owed the money and he couldn't give me an answer, although he did tell me I was very easy to find. I said that if I was easy to find, why didn't Citibank send me bills. I told him that I want to see a copy of the bill and would call him back to discuss it after I see it. I told him that I could not talk right now and would call him back later. He then began threatening me and told me that if I hung up without settling today, I would be sued. I asked how he could collect a debt that I never received a letter for and he said they sent me a letter. I told him I never got a letter and he told me it was sent yesterday. He had extensive personal information about me, including my checking account and overdraft protection limit. He knew every credit card that I had, including balances and credit limits. He insisted that I take a cash advance on my credit cards to pay him when I told him I had no money to pay. He continued threatening to ruin my credit and to sue me. He made me cry with his threats. I kept telling him that I never received any bills for this in the past 15 years and he said they just bought this debt last month. After continuous threats and insistence that I make a payment by phone, he told me he could take a check by phone to stop the lawsuit, telling me that my overdraft protection would cover it even though I did not have the funds in my checking account. I told him I do not want to write a bad check, so he told me he would postdate the check for the end of the month. In fear of a lawsuit, I agreed to postdate a check for $100, as he said they would not proceed with a lawsuit if I made payment arrangements. When I got home, I went on the internet and found out I had been scammed and immediately stopped payment, but I am now scared that my account will be wiped out. I am going to the bank tomorrow to close my account and hope they did not clear it out tonight. Debbie Tustin CA
