Can credit card companies seize personal bank account?

I have a quick question. My sister was diagnosed with cancer and she has no medical insurance. I know it wasn't smart but I maxed out credit cards with low interest balance transfer offers to help her pay for medical bills. It's the only option we have.

I have perfect credit now but I'm sure my credit will be ruined after this. My question is, can credit card companies seize personal assets in my checking/savings account?

How often is this done? Has this happened to anyone? Is there anyway I can avoid this? Do they go to small claims court or what type of court and judgement do they go to? What is the maximum they can collect.

Help!
