Asset is trying to staunch the flood of potential objections to their lawsuits by actually trying to dig up your account information. They’re probably trying to pay the OC $100 an hour documents search fee to have somebody dig through a pile of boxes looking for your original signature. They’d want someone on the microfiche machine trying to get your statements. Word is getting out that they don’t have any documentation on their lawsuits, and they don’t want to open up the floodgates of consumers objecting in court.

Good luck. No matter how much money they throw at your case, they can’t find a document that simply doesn’t exist anymore (hopefully.) And they may simply be trying to wear you down. Keep us posted.

There’s going to be a backlash to these lawsuits. Asset owns 15 million accounts. Sooner or later, everyone is going to know somebody sued by Asset, and when they find out they are getting sued on an account Asset bought for 1.85 cents on the dollar, there will be an uproar.

As I said, these accounts were never sold by the OC with any intention of them ever winding up in court. They’re sold as unwarranted dead accounts. Get what you can pan-handling on the phone, but don’t expect back up help trying to strong-arm people in court. I don’t think the OC will even be willing to help Asset out even if Asset is willing to pay for a documents search.
