Well, that 'someone you know' is wrong.

Debts included in bankruptcy should be reported as 'included in bankruptcy' with a ZERO balance and no lates or charge-off notations AFTER your BK filing date. Prior history can stay and if the account was in charge-off status prior to filing that too can remain, but the dates must be BEFORE you filed.
