DOD=Department of Security

If you work for the government in finance or work with a defense contractor, you have to have one. Also if you have to handle large volumes of sensitive equipment and high volume dollars or are involved with sensitive information than they will.

My husband has a top level security clearance and he was told he would lose his position if he went bankrupt.

The employers and types of employers who demand top security clearances are as follows:

Military personnel (Military Intelligence, Aviation Officers, Special Forces)

Department of Defense government employees who have to deal with large sums of money or are privy to information dealing with nuclear, high tech computer information.

Military Contractors who supply sensitive equipment and software to the military.

In addition, banks for upper management also do credit checks and require security clearances.

Network administrators who handle government computers also require security clearances.

I know quite a few people who have top security clearances and there are more jobs out there that are requiring more extensive credit and background checks on their employees due to the technical nature of the world and the high security concerns.
