need help with info on repo car that I co-signed

I co-signed a auto loan the person did not keep up and the car was repoed. compass bank said they tried to reach me and say they will not work with me that I would need to pay in full the car loan to keep it off my credit or refinance with a nother bank to get the car what can I do
