I would like to say something else. Unless you have all the documentation to that account before you, the only safe thing to do is answer lack of knowlege. You have no way of knowing that the account number is absolutely correct (if one of their file clerks typed in even a single wrong digit, you have the wrong account and thus it is not yours), you have no way of knowing that they have calculated the interest rate correctly, and you have no way of knowing if they gouged you with illegal fees that cannot be collected in your contract.

You see, there are many parts to validating an account and making sure it is the right one...Correct name and address of creditor, correct name and address of debtor, correct account number, correct billing and charges. Unless you keep really good records and have copies of every statement, every charge, there is no way you can know for certain if they have assessed the right charges.

Defending yourself in court is sometimes the only sure way that you don't get gouged and raked over the coals by greedy creditors who count on the fact that the consumer doesn't keep contracts around to challenge their charges.
