Your response to the allegations in the complaint is separate, and just consists of "agree," "deny" or "lack of knowledge." Then afterwards you plead your affirmative defenses. You have to number each one, like Affirmative Defense I: Failure to State a Cause (for which relief can be granted)." Then plead your case and cite the statutes that they violated. "Affirmative Defense II: Violation of ILL Code of Civil Procedure" and you can use the same facts and statutes. (Maybe they'll be successful in striking one, but not the other.) Follow in that order with all of your affirmative defenses. Here's a link to a document sample on the http://www.illinoisprobono.org site.
