This happened to me with Capital One. Someone in Gainesville used my SS# and name to get a Capital One card. I never knew about it till recently, when I got my credit reports. I called Capital One and told them I have never had a Capital One card. They were surprising nice and transferred me to the fraud division. After about 15 minutes of talking to some lady and telling her my old addresses and the fact that there had never been one payment to the card, she was convinced that it was fraud and said they would be taking off all the CRAs. A week later I received a letter from them stating that the account had been deemed fraudulent and that I was no longer responsible. This is the letter you need. You can fax this letter or mail a copy to any collection agency that happens to bug you, and kindly tell them to f* off. Hope this helps you. It worked for me.
