The cosigner plays no part in this. First of all, there was an original contract requiring a cosigner. That contract and its obligation is filled. Then there was a new lease. The cosigner is not obligated for the next sixth months since he did not sign that agreement. Every lease is treated as a new contract. The cosigner cannot be held indefinetely for a lease if a new lease was signed.

See a lawyer to make sure though or go to legal aid which is often free.
