It matters!!! They consider a person in debt and with bad credit as a person who is in need and more apt to receive payment for privileged info. In other words you are a point of weakness. They also view you as a person who doesn’t do as you say you will since you failed fulfill your obligations. Ask me how I know this, well I’ve worked on 2 jobs at Los Alamos New Mexico (NISC and SSC) during the time when those hard drives turned up missing.

I doubt I am eligible for security clearance of any sort with my current credit, really don’t think it is worth the hassle any way. The pay is nothing special you basically living a status and since I’ve been there and done that there are tons of opportunities in the private sector where salaries are based upon competition not the lowest bidder.
