garnishment question

when garnishing wages how do they figure out what to take? im a single mom and i waitress for a living my tips are included on my paycheck,however my take home pay is between 50.00 and 80.00 dollars a week. would that be exempt? it would eliminate my ability to support my family if ANY money was taken im tring to scrape money together to file bk,and i dont have a house or a car what would they be able to do to me? thanks for the help!
