The SOL might be sooner than you think. I'm not really familiar with an AT&T bill, but if they charge off in the same manner as a credit card, then the rule of thumb would be 6 months before charge off would start the SOL. So, if you can figure out when you actually did last pay on the account, you might be pleasantly surprised.
I just got some personal advice from Why Chat about paying a CA (daughter-student loan). He/she said to pay with a money order, put on the back "for deposit only", copy both front and back, and send with a letter stating that is is payment in full. Of course, copy the letter too. Send certified/return receipt. That is what my daughter is going to do to pay a student loan that went to a CA so that they don't get her banking info.
