WHO "forgave" the debt?

If you go to my website, there is a link to 1099 (forgiven debt) information.

Your "tax person" should be the one to be helping you now, and be defending you with the IRS, that is the PURPOSE of paying someone who is qualified to prepare your taxes, they are required to defend and support their advice.

I don't quite understand your point about the mortgage, unless this was a "forgiven" debt 1099 from a cram-down foreclosure.
