Collection Agency question

I just learned that my debt $1800.00 to a TV store was written off as a bad debt.Original products purchased are 8 years old. A collection agency now has it. Should I bother to talk with these people? My credit is very bad already, if I pay them will they payback the TV store? Thanks Bill
