Progressive Asset Management Problems - Please Help!

I started "cleaning" up my husbands credit about a year ago. Got off most everything that I could and his score improved. One that I could not get removed was Progressive Asset. I sent them various letters to validate, but they never responded. I don't even know who the original creditor is. It is listed on his Experian report as "In dispute by consumer".

We are getting ready to purchase a home and when the mortgage company ran his credit report, it shows that Progessive Asset has just recently filed a collection for $12,000.00 listed as "Attorney Fees". It was filed just this month.

I have checked his old credit reports and it was a collection from an account with last activity of 11/1997. So the account is still within SOL(Florida), by five months!

Any suggestions on how I can try to get this removed very quickly? We cannot procede with the purchase of our home until I let the mortgage company know what this is. Also, I'm afraid if we try to contact Progressive, with our luck, they will provide some sort of signed contract from the original creditor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!
