You need to be looking at the last time you paid the original creditor. Doesn't matter how old the account is, SOL starts when it goes deliquent. And here is the letter.

You are probably dealing with a CA, maybe one attorney associated. Check to see if this attorney is licensed to practice in California. Sounds like a scam to me. BUT be sure of the SOL before you send the letter, and send it certified/return receipt.
