opting out prevents CRAs from selling your info to CAs or others who buy the info..to send you those "pre-approved" offers..etc. keeps CAs from hurting your credit due to old accounts, also and keeps them from seeing what your doin..jobs..buying a house or car..now ones with permission can still get your credit info..just ones who are "browsing" cant. on the second..i cant imagine no one has come after her. federal loans will take your income tax refunds..if nothing else. not sure there is a SOL for them, either. the interest is awful on them. my son in law owes like 18,000 on a 10,000 one now. his is way old too..but they still come at them. they defer it. can she pay it now? then pay it. if not..lay low. it isnt listed cause whoever owns it..which is still the gov..hasnt reported it. mess with it..they may find it. lol. maybe she got lost in the cracks..but i would be afraid they will find it ..they are working hard on getting those old loans paid back now..those loans are a diff game..
