Unless you signed for your father's account, you have NO obligation to pay a ¢ to anyone. DO NOT talk to them again, this is NOT Amex, it is a 3rd party collection agency making illegal threats. They can NOT sue anyone. How old is this debt?( when did your father or anyone n his behalf last pay on the account) What State is/was your Father's last residence in?Is he on active duty service? Make sure you Opt Out on YOUR credit reports to prevent illegal poisoning of YOUR credit for your father's debts.
