Regions Bank -Help

I had a account with Regions bank for about a year. I lost my job and the account went in the negative. They began to charge me all kinds of bank charges. Needless to say, I could not afford to pay the account current and now it is like -1,500. I have moved 2 times since then and have not received any kind of bank statement, etc.. from them , I am assuming because they don't know where i live. I don't have a checking account open right now because i am GUESSING that i will not be able to open an account elsewhere because I owe them money. What do I need to do about this and is there any way to open a bank account elsewhere? The account has been closed since last year. I have not seen it on my credit report yet, but I am thinking that it is definetely coming soon. HELP!
