Who told you that you have to pay the CA the first three payments??? That is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! Go to the link I sent you and read for yourself! And I find it really hard to believe that a full monthly payment would equal a month's salary, because it's based on your INCOME. Unless your spouse is making OODLES of money, there's no way the payment could equal your salary. You fill out the application sheets and send in a "reasonable" payment directly to the Dept of Ed. It's sort of like an earnest payment to show your good faith. They will calculate your payments based on your income according to your previous year's income tax and let you know what the payment will be. You have to stick with that payment for three months, then you can change it anytime you like. Don't believe anything these bozos are telling you. I did this several years ago, so I can assure you that the information you were given is WRONG. These are the forms you will need: http://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/forms/apppnote.pdf http://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/forms/icr.pdf The latter form gives the Dept of Ed the right to confirm your income with the IRS. Please don't let these thugs have their way with you. Call the Dept. of Ed in order to get the correct account numbers and amounts for your loans. You can pay for this information (I did), or you can do it yourself.
