Well, I think the original loan was something like 800.00, it was in default for a few years, but they never contacted us. My daughter was REALLY sick, and when she was first notified of this, she could not remember it. Kept calling College Foundation, where she is paying on all of her student loans (one payment a month) and they were telling her that her loans were all up to date. Fianlly called her school and found that indeed there was such a loan. We had them validate anyway. Guess we really could have disputed using medical records, but she just paid. She paid a couple of hundred to the CA. The reason I didn't dispute was that, even though I thought her medical records were severe enough to warrant the dispute, if she ended up loosing the dispute it probably would have cost her more. She has a great job now, so it really wasn't a big deal to her. She didn't want her medical records on record. We fought to have them "lost", and they are legally lost. Of course, I still have copies of everything.
