If you are filing Chapter 13 where your wages are going to be garnished, your employer will definitely know about it as they deduct the amount and forward it to the court as part of the debtor plan. Unless you work in the financial field, most employers don't really seem to care if you file. It can be embarassing, but only because you want people to think well of you and not being able to pay debts carries a stigma. BK is a legal remedy that you have the right to seek and no one should hold that against you. Avoid being embarassed by telling the pertinent people what you want them to know and shut down any speculation. I told my supervisor that paperwork would be coming thru so he wasn't caught unawares and there was never a problem.
