Your children will never be liable for your debts. As already noted by JKelly, your estate pays your debts - if you leave one. If you leave no estate or the estate is insolvent, well.. tough luck for the creditors.

Probate may not be necessary for inheritance, you need to check with an estate lawyer in your state. Rights of inheritance vary by law.

If there is no probate, and no estate, then someone would simply notify all your creditors of your passing and send along a copy of the death certificate.
