It would prevent a garbage collector who has purchased an old debt and putting their tradeline on your CR. No, it does not directly improve your CR, just prevents blackmailing. If you have been reading the posts today. People who have current good credit are threatened by 3rd party CAs who bought their old old debt and are trying to collect. If you have good credit, they can destroy it with their tradeline. AND they will blackmail you into payig them even though they have no legal right to collect on the debt.
