Where you live determinds your sol (in most cases).
I know that in Calif. it's four years. I have a friend who is a lender, he has told me that after the four year time laps, even though the charge offs show on your credit report, they hold little value to most lenders. You will end up paying a little higher % rate but it's usually not that great...maybe 1/4 to 1/2%.
I have just checked into this myself and that is what I found out.
