Thank you for your replies. The last payment we sent to them was about a year ago. (So not the 3 years) We struggled every month to send them as much as we could for as long as we could, until we just couldn't anymore and the late fees and interest was making our little $25 payments ridiculous.

We were served with the papers last month saying that they were going to ask for a judgement if we didn't respond to their letter and pay in full. So we responded, sent it to them as well as filed it in the clerk of courts office. We told them our story (not that they cared of course) and basically told them we would find a way to pay if they could only accept a settlement -lesser amount. (we had really been lucky with the other cards and got great settlement amounts) There was no way we could come up with $7000. But their response was a letter say to pay in full or they would procede. So that's what they did.

It was a sheriff's deputy who brought the papers.

Thank you for the links I will look at them now. Do they garnish your wages in NC?
