My husband received a call while I was at work from Merchant Credit Group (888-249-4134)for a Chase Manhattan card that I was supposed to have had sometime in the early 1990s. They used my maiden name. We have been married since 1985. I never had a Chase Manhattan card in the early 1990'. Nor could they tell him the exact date of this debt, simply that they bought it. My husband asked them if they ever heard of the statute of limitations and that this debt is time-barred and that we could sue them trying to collect this. They said that they could use any means possible to collect this debt and they would take me to court.
When I got home, I called them back. I was in the mood for a good argument. Instead, I got their answering machine. I asked for validation of this debt and warned them that if they dared calling me again, they could be fined $1000.
Does anyone know anything about these jerks? (We live in CT.)Do you think we've heard the last of this?
