Sears Interest Hike

I got a Interest Hike to 24.9% and my credit lowered for being one day late in 6 years. DH forgot to pay at the Sears outlet, now they are trying to catch me out by changing date every month and trying to get me over the limit, what a hassle is this legal? and do you think its because we are in collection on other accounts ? seems like discrination to me. !!Any suggestions.Thanks again in advance.
