The MINUTE you try to reach any "settlement" for her , YOU will be on the hook for the whole amount. Do you know for SURE when her last ON TIME payment on the account directly to Providean was made? What State is she in? She may be beyond SOL. If she has any assets in her name,like a home or car, check your State's exemtions. On bank accounts, make sure the accounts are closed and reopened as a joint account with your or another famly member's name and ss# 1st. Her ss income is exempt from garnishment, but that will not stop scum CA shysters like Sofer from raiding it.
