As long as the judgment is not for child support or for criminal activity, it WILL be discharged with your BK.

However, that is NOT the end of the judgment. Once you're discharged, you MUST file a Motion to Vacate with the court holding the judgment. ONLY that will erase the judgment itself. The other thing to look out for - judgment liens. If you own property, a judgment creditor can place a lien on your property which can be avoided in the BK IF you know its there.

The horror stories you hear are because people did not take the 2nd stop to vacate the judgment, or they had a lien on their property and didn't know it was there and it therefore was not properly avoided.
