Unfortunately, you reset the SOL when you reaffirmed it in 2000, so it will expire in 2006.

The damage is already done to your credit report. It's highly unlikely that you'll be able to dispute it away with the CRA's. And asking for validation is basically asking for trouble. Paying the debt will not remove it from your credit report, but will glue it to your report for the full 7 year reporting period.

Depending on how much is involved, you could ask for a "pay for delete" arrangement with Chase. But IMHO that would probably be a mistake. Chase is not known for its graciousness to defaulted accountholders. If they have any hint at all that you CARE about your credit report, they'll play hardball with you.

Best to lie low and deal with the entry on your credit report, especially if they're not contacting you.
