I need some advise. I am being sued by Hayt, Hayt & Landau from a debt I created back in 1994. They are attempting to garnish my wages. I have read nothing but bad things about them on the internet. Concerning their illegal ways of collecting debts and class action lawsuits against them for this!!! I have a court date coming up and don't know if it is necessary to hire an attorney to add to the cost. I am so confused about the actual laws on the 7 year jubilee. This account (Home Depot) shows on my credit report pulled in Sept of 04 as being sold to someone in 1997. Does anyone feel I am still responsible or does this seem crazy to everyone else and not just me. I'm not sure what to do. I have not heard anything from this old debt until september of 03'. Long period of time to forget about something and then have it shoved in your face. I avoided it just like everyone else would have and now the garnishment. I figured this would have dropped off my credit by now because I've always been told that 7 years and you don't have to worry about it. But these new companies buying up old debts? What are the actual statues regarding the limitations and rights of me/us-consumers! I really need some input on this before I go to an attorney. If I had the money to do that I would have paid for the debt in the first place. I am not a homeowner, I own a vehicle but my father's name is on the title and other than that all I have a furnishings and my personal belongings. This is driving me crazy and I would like someone to give me advise on where to take it from here. Thank you so much, Stacey
