Back about 9 years ago I've defaulted on a couple of credit cards. One of them just wrote off the debts and I haven't heard from them. The other one, however, has sold the debt to a debt collector (Century Financial) who in turn hired an attorney firm and in the past year or so they are on my case. The amount they are asking is approx. $11,000
I did not respond to their repeated letters as I travel a lot and I have never received or signed for them and consequently they have obtained a judgement against me in the superior court of New Jersey. A detective from the county Sheriff's office has come twice to my house while I wasn't home. He threatened my wife with "next time I will make an arrest" or "I will make an inventory of your stuff ".
He also left papers with my wife from the Attorneys , along with his report to them in which he states that “he was refused entry” which is obviously untrue, unless my not being present, means , in legal terms, “refusal of entry “.
The above papers are basically warnings on the Attorney’s letterhead but seemingly from the “Superior Court”, in which they notify me that they are about to ask the Court to enforce the judgement by arresting me or seizing stuff from within my home.
About a week ago, I received another notification , by registered mail , for which , for the first time being home, I’ve signed.
It shows that they will ask the Court as per above, on July 09, 2004.
What can I do ?
