You should ask it of the judge when you're in court. It would be great if you could find an attorney to represent you (perhaps someone from Legal Aid, if you're eligible). But barring that, you should ask it of the judge when your turn comes to speak. (Your ex's attorney will get to speak first and state his case, so don't be surprised.)
