It depends on your court's rules. But here, they can continue to request the court issue alias summons until they get you. If they fail to continuously request summons, then the case becomes inactive and could be involuntarily dismissed after a period of time (i.e.,for failure to prosecute). Usually the case is dead after a specified period, usually one year, if they don't ask to reinstate the case. If they go beyond that time period, then they *have* to refile the case IF the SOL has not expired.
