If I have moved to a state with a shorter SOL, how is this benficial?

I want this to work to my advantage, but I don't know the laws. I tried Why Chat's website, but I am dyslexic (really) and I have a hard time locating the info without getting lost. Sorry!
SINCE I'm home free on the SOL in my new state, am I really home free? I know they can file suit, but can I used expired NC SOL as a defense, even if I moved here 2 years ago?
