With an account that is very recently charged off, do nothing. There is a lot of psychology in debt collection. Psychologically, they are letting you know that they know where you work and they want you to believe they have your social. The game is about communicating with you and persuading you to pay. I don't know your circumstances, but I would assume that you would have payed the original creditor if you could. Anyway, too late now. Once the account is charged off, you live with the negative on your CR for 7 years. (unless you are lucky and disput it off with the CRAs.) Never any reason to pay a CA. CAs lie and threaten, that is the way they do business. What state are you in?
