Perhaps you could explain this a bit more?

Did Buy.com send the merchandise? And it sounds like you are saying that they didn't indicate any problems until now? Exactly what did their recent email say?

When a consumer buys something with a regular general-purpose credit card, like a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover, the merchant generally gets the money within a few days. If the consumer disputes the transaction with the credit card company (e.g. claiming that they never made the purchase), which would result in a charge-back (i.e. the credit card issuer takes the money back from the merchant), then, of course, the merchant will get upset. But if the transaction goes through OK, and the cardholder doesn't challenge it, then everything should be just fine from the merchant's perspective. Even if the cardholder later defaulted on the card payments, the merchant wouldn't care, since they already got their money.

Did your credit card bill list the purchase OK? Is the merchant claiming that there was a charge-back sometime after that? Consumer disputes like that must be submitted within 60 days of the date of the credit card statement with the transaction on it.

If you still have your old credit card bills/statements from around the time of the purchase (the charge should have appeared on your statement within two months of the day you made it), then check and make sure it is listed.

Contact Buy.com, and ask for a clearer explaination of what they think the problem is. Also call your credit card issuer, and ask if there has been any kind of problem involving that transaction.

Good luck.
