Well, obviously the way to re-establish contact with the original creditor is to call them or write to them. Use the phone number and/or address from an old bill. If you don't have that info anymore, then just call 1 (800) 555-1212 and ask for a number for that company.

Another possibility is to request your credit bureau reports, (see the *Credit Reports* link at the left side of the screen), and see if the original account is listed, and use the address given there.

Whether they will be open to a repayment deal will depend on them and their policies. They might feel that it is too much hassle to deal with.

An important point is that the original creditor might have actually sold the debt to the outside collection agency. If so, then the original creditor will definitely *not* get involved again.

If the original creditor still owns the debt, perhaps you might ask the credit counselling service to approach them with an offer.
