What is the statute of limitations to collect a debt in Pennsylvania. In January this utility co. didn't have a record of an account that appeared on my credit report. Now, they not only have a record, but they gave it a brand new number and the only documentation they have is my former name, former address, SS# and collection amount. I have never received any bill or correspondece from them, and now they have sold it to a collector, who had no problem at all finding me the first try. Equifax is reporting as open and TU is reporting as closed 5/96. I have disputed this 3 times with each CRA but it keeps coming back verified. I asked the elec. co. for validation, but they said the auditors declared it my debt in 1999. So, they cannot provide me with signature, or any payment record. They can't prove this debt is even mine. What should I do?
