: Around November 2000, I purchased a car from a dealership in Gurnee Illinois. The price of the car was a very good deal. I would pay 1500.00 at the time of the purchase and I wrote a post-dated check for 700.00 that would not go through until 30 days. Well the 1500.00 check went through the bank with no problems. Maybe about 3 weeks before the 700.00 check was suppose to be processed, I knew that I did not have enough money in the bank to cover the 700.00. So as I thought I was thinking though this situation carefully, I called up the car dealership and spoke with the person who processed all my information when I bought the car. He was very nice to me and let me come in to write another check. I wrote another check for 500.00 and I had more than enough money in the bank to cover that check. My boyfriend and I was a witness that he called where they processed my check and he specifically told them to cancel that 700.00 check and we were going to use the 500.00 check. I thought it was ok.

: One night I was checking my balance and the automatic system told me that I had a negative 237.00 in the bank. I am wondering how that happened. Come to find out that the car dealership processed the wrong check (the 700.00 check). That is what made me have a -237.00 in the bank.

: The bank ended up closing the count because I learned of this situation soo late that I really did not know what to do or at the time have the funds to pay for it. However, the bank did let me pay the off the amount that I owed and I was able to re-open the account. This was totally not my fault. Now the bank is telling me that they can write me a letter stating that the amount was paid in full but they are not willing to take me off because they said that it was my fault that I mis-handled the account. I thought I handled this situation as smart as I could and still ended up with a foot in my butt. Can someone please help me get around this situation.
