Here is what I do. When I am paying bills, in the checkbook, I write a code check and bill out to myself for about $400. I then keep track in a separate notebook about all those reserves. I never tell him I am doing it. I just keep quiet and pretend it is a bill. He thinks it is a bill and we always have at least four hundred a month stashed in our checking account that he is not aware of. That way after the bills, he may think he is spending foolishly but we are actually saving and he does not know it. If he knew it, it would be gone. It would eat at him until he had to spend it. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.
