On my summons to appear in court (I am in Indiana), it says that unless I file a dispute of the claim, the judge will hear the case on the date in the summons. The advice I was given on these boards was to file a debt validation letter which you can find here:

I think this would be perfect to dispute and give you added time. The CA has to prove you owe the debt, you don't have to prove anything. They are bringing suit against YOU and the burden of proof is on them. As many have told me here and on creditboards.com, many times the CA cannot validate your debt, read what is on this site, it is totally easy to understand and takes you through everything all on one page:

Hope this helps in some way. I know you feel, I too, was very scared about all this, I still am, but not as much as before thanks to the people here.
